*PLEASE e-mail /fax/call Georgia’s Board of Pardons to stop the execution on Sept 23, 2008, of Troy Anthony Davis. Last year he was scheduled to die on July 17th, 2007 – but with enough protests, emails, and phone calls, the Board held off on his execution date.

1 year later, Amnesty International is still working hard in this corrupt-against-blacks US system and most recently he was denied clemency on Sept 12 – so he is still scheduled to die on Sept 23, 2008. The worst part is that Georgia is 1 of 3 states where the governor can’t grant clemency, so really all appeals must be made to the George Board of Pardons.

Just keep in mind that with enough protests from citizens and organizations, his execution was held off last year. It can happen again this year. Please find a way to do something about this – e-mail, blog, vlog, twitter, flickr, change your ghcat-im status – whatever you can do!

The execution of Troy Anthony Davis is set for tomorrow, July 17th. Send an e-mail to protest it.

Amnesty International says that "Troy Davis was sentenced to death for the murder of Police Officer Mark Allen McPhail in Georgia. The case against him consisted entirely of witness testimony which contained inconsistencies even at the time of the trial. Since then, all but two of the state’s nine non-police witnesses from the trial have recanted their testimony. Many of these witnesses have stated in sworn affidavits that they were pressured or coerced by police into testifying or signing statements against Troy Davis."

I understand the reality of stopping this will probably not materialize (which brings me back to when I angrily wrote about Stanley "Tookie" William’s execution a few years ago) – but silence is worse – and even if his execution isn’t stopped tomorrow, at least the Georgia state will see the intense the opposition is and *may* prompt them or some individuals to re-think the death-row policy.

Davis’s case is especially apalling in the high error of its evidence (purported witnesses), and even members of Congress have written to Georgia’s Board of Pardons. "Nobel-prize winner Rev. Desmond Tutu, singer Harry Belafonte, actor Mike Farrell, Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL), Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), Sister Helen Prejean, Sam D. Millsap, Jr. (former D.A. of Bexar County, TX), record producer and activist Russell Simmons and Murder Victims Families for Reconciliation are among those who have voiced support for clemency." The big players are charging insane amounts! Basically all I need is:
-a dedicated local phone number that is answered by a receptionist during business hours,
-a mailing address that is an office address and not a PO Box where I can receive mail, and
-access to a conference room (I’m willing to pay by the hour for the usage.)

Help!
Is there someone in L.A. that does this that does not charge an arm and a leg and is reliable?

The Virtual Environments module, ( 1st Year FD Design for Digital Media ) – set a brief where students had to create a prototype experience based around an area from the DirectGov website . The students were advised to focus their projects on the areas of ‘Environment & Greener Living’ or ‘Health and Wellbeing’

Health and Fitness

This prototype build, focused on creating a community based space and avatar instructor around the theme of fitness. Specifically the team recognised, the audience should be shown exercises that could be achieved at a RL office desk or computer table – using the furniture around you. Utilising your own avatar as the personal instructor to follow. This would reflect on the general situation the user would be in, when exploring SL. The wider project development- also considered a ‘portable’ version – that would tell people to do exercise if they’ve logged into SL for a long period of time.

With further development there is a potential progression with this project, and taps into the current zeitgeist of Virtual Fitness instruction but adding the benefits of an online community.

Ushahidi plus FrontlineSMS

When we run a "local" version of Ushahidi, meaning it’s on the ground in a country that we have an installation in, we use FrontlineSMS as the local connection point. Due to using a local mobile and SIM card, we can hound out local phone numbers to send information in to.

As the SMS messages come into the FrontlineSMS client on the local computer, then they sync with Ushahidi on the web whenever the computer is connected to the internet.

What do you know, the city of San Antonio has developed an Android application for citizens to report graffiti.

The app lets you specify on what kind of surface/object it is found, whether it is offensive or not, snap a photo of it, enter a text or audio note, enter a map location(network or (GPS) and give your name/anonymous, email, phone number and the option to "subscribe" to the city – I guess in tracking their cleanup progress(?).

I am quite sure it will be in Houston before long.
